Arise has finished its restructuring process and is in the midst of completing projects and courting new clients. The company plans to provide a complete system integration service for its customers. Arise noted that it has severed its German cell manufacturing facility and the silicon R&D segments. Additionally, the company added a new finacing component to its systems division to help clients complete a lease option.
JinkoSolar Holdings has opened a PV module testing lab in Jiangxi, China, which was awarded the Underwriters Laboratories (UL) Witness Testing Data Program (WTDP) certificate. The company worked with UL to obtain certification and will now be able to offer customers and third party’s testing facilities, under the supervision of UL personnel, with an aim to ensure high quality and expedite the time to market.
International Solar Electric Technology (ISET) was
established as a California corporation on March 24‚
1985 with the objective of developing low cost materials
and processes for manufacturing photovoltaic (PV)
modules. During the past 25 years‚ ISET has received
45 government contracts and customer orders covering
advanced technology R&D‚ turnkey production equipment
sales‚ and direct purchases of Copper Indium Gallium Selenide (CIGS) solar cells.
In 2006‚ ISET began development of a production facility for manufacturing printed CIGS photovoltaic modules. ISET’s laboratories and manufacturing facilities are located in a
24‚000 ft2 facility at 20600 Plummer St. in Chatsworth‚ California.
Experience
ISET’s initial efforts began in 1985 with 4 successive contracts from the Solar Energy Research Institute (SERI)‚ the predecessor of today’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). ISET has continued to work closely with government agencies to achieve new breakthroughs in technology advancement with 6 contracts from NREL under the Thin Film Photovoltaic Partnership Program and 3 Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contracts from the Department of Energy (DOE). ISET received a rating of “Excellent in All Areas” by the 2003 Peer Review of the U.S. Department of Energy Photovoltaics Subprogram.
ISET is the originator of the low-cost printable method for producing thin-film solar cells. The first confidential work on fabricating CIGS cells from nanoparticle inks began in 1987 as an alternative to electrodeposition or expensive high-vacuum techniques such as sputtering and evaporation. By 1997‚ ISET had demonstrated that printed CIGS cells could achieve efficiencies above 12%. A technical paper was published describing a “non-vacuum deposition technique,” and patents were issued in 1998 followed by a full disclosure of the successful development of the nanoparticle ink printing approach in 1999.
ISET began fabrication of CIGS solar cells on light–weight flexible
polymer substrates for the first time under contract from NASA in 1991.
This advanced R&D led to further contracts and purchases for flexible
space power CIGS cells from NASA, Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL)‚
the Missile Defense Agency‚ the Air Force Research Laboratory‚
Lockheed Martin‚ and the Aerospace Corporation. ISET’s efforts under
these contracts also produced high quality cells on titanium and other metallic foils.
In addition to advanced technology research‚ ISET has also been active in the development of production operations and PV system installation. In 1987‚ ISET partnered with a roofing company in Los Angeles to design the first PV–integrated single–ply roofing material. In the 1990’s ISET designed‚ assembled and shipped turnkey lamination and module assembly equipment to customers overseas and installed several PV systems in the city of Los Angeles. In 2001‚ ISET provided technical consultation to Honda Soltec during the development of their vacuum–based CIGS production. More recently‚ ISET has focused its efforts on transferring its proprietary technology to large scale manufacturing operations.
